The best way to get to know me and my tastes in mobile gear is to look what’s on my desk. I have too many gadgets on the table, even though I recently got rid of three of them.
I use all of these devices regularly. The big while laptop in the back on the right is the Acer Chromebook 13. It’s my primary desktop system due to the big screen. I like Chromebooks and have owned several of them. I spend most of my time in the Chrome browser and this Chromebook is the best way to do it.
The other laptop in the center is the 11-inch MacBook Air, circa early 2013. It’s the laptop I take when I head out of the office, especially on business trips. It’s still a great laptop even though it’s over two years old.
Immediately in front of the Chromebook are two devices. The iPad mini 3 is lying on top of the unique Jide Remix Ultra tablet. The Remix is based on a variation of Android Lollipop with Jide’s UI on top. It is designed to look and operate like Windows 7 to take advantage of the attached keyboard that comes with the tablet.
The iPad mini 3 has LTE and I use it mostly around the house. It’s my favorite way to surf the web and read ebooks in my comfy chair.
The smartphone in the charging stand in the back is the very old Samsung Galaxy Note 2. I don’t use it and it has no service.
The iPad Air 2 in the blue smart cover on the left is my main daily work system. I use it with a keyboard and it handles all of my needs. My current keyboard used with the iPad is the Microsoft Universal Mobile Keyboard. It is a great keyboard even for rapid touch typing.
My iPhone 6 Plus isn’t in the photo as it was used to take it. It is simply the best phone I’ve ever owned.
Oh I almost forgot, the black cylinder at the right edge of the desk is the Amazon Echo. I was fortunate to receive one of the first ones last year and it’s still one of my favorite gadgets.
So that’s what’s on my desk at the moment. In future posts I’ll share how I use each and in what situation.
